Many of us are feeling more disconnected than ever before- we are experiencing an epidemic of loneliness according to Dr. Vivek Murthy. Whether at home, at the office or remote, or on our phones- we are lonely. According to the American Psychiatric Association, a 2024 poll found that 30% of adults reported feeling lonely at least once a week.
Dr. Vivek Murthy, former U.S. Surgeon General, called loneliness a public health epidemic. He reminds us that chronic loneliness can be as harmful to our health as smoking—raising the risk for heart disease, stroke, and depression and eroding our personal, professional and collective wellness. And unless we do something about it, this crisis will persist.
